Schnalstal – on the trails of Ötzi!

Due to a mysterious discovery of a corpse, the unspoilt high mountain valley became famous in one swoop. On 19 September 1991, a tourist couple came across Ötzi, a glacier mummy who turned out to be a real sensation. If you spend your family holiday in South Tyrol in this quiet valley, you can walk in the footsteps of the man from the ice every day. At the top of the bucket list is a trip to the perpetual ice. Whether in summer or in winter, for skiing, tobogganing or hiking – on the Schnalstal Glacier you can reach new heights.

Peace and quiet and nowhere else. In the absolutely unspoilt Lagauntal, nature still sets the tone. Hike through this unique paradise with high moors and extensive larch forests.

Fancy an adrenalin kick? The Ötzi Rope Park near the Vernagt reservoir lake awaits you with 11 parcours, 150 platforms, giant swing, Flying Fox, and ziplines.

A sunken village lies at the bottom of the Vernagt reservoir lake, from which the church tower rises when the water level is low. An easy hike leads you around the azure blue shimmering lake.

The Archeopark in Unser Frau is all about Ötzi. Immerse yourself in the unique world of the man from the ice and slip into the role of the Stone Age people. Open from early April to early November.

This park at the Moarhof in Katharinaberg will awaken the hunting instinct in you. There are 20 targets to hit on the four-kilometer-long tour. A shot in the bull’s eye for young and old!

How about some high speed? Rent a mountain cart near the mountain station of the Lazaun lift and race back down to the valley along the wide forest path. What a feeling …

Schloss Juval, home of mountaineering legend Reinhold Messner, is enthroned on a rock at the entrance to Val Senales/Schnalstal. In addition to the impressive MMM Juval museum, a small mountain animal park awaits you here.
