The festival for knights and damsels
An impressive show on horseback
Would you like to journey back in time to the Middle Ages? Right this way!
Attention all knights and damsels: From 16 to 18 August 2024, the South Tyrolean Knights’ Games are once again taking place in Schluderns! They’re being held in the historic location of Coira/Churburg Castle, the Montechiaro/Lichtenberg Castle ruins, Principe/Fürstenburg Castle, and the Marienberg monastery. Spectators of all ages will watch the spectacular exhibition fights between courageous knights with bated breath.
The festivities kick off with a historic parade through the market on Friday morning, followed by musical performances, workshops, and a falconry flight show. In the afternoon, the time has finally arrived: Children will be wide-eyed with wonder at the great knights’ tournament. Armour clatters, lances break, horses gallop towards each other – until the noble lords announce their victor. In the evening, you can watch the Battle of Calven from May 1499 – Emperor Maximilian’s greatest defeat – as well as a horse show and fire performance.
Saturday begins with a large parade through the lanes of Schluderns before various bands, magicians, and falconers perform. After another knights’ tournament in the afternoon, the European Cup final takes place, followed by various concerts and shows.
Sunday follows the same muster, bringing the knights’ games to a merry end.
A total of 1,800 performers from 11 countries will be taking part in the knights’ games in Schluderns. The festival grounds have a main, jester’s, and market stage, as well as a battlefield, music tent, arena, army camp, and market. That means that children and parents will not only enjoy thrilling tournaments, but can also immerse themselves in the world of the Middle Ages and learn more about this fascinatingly multifaceted time. All attractions can be enjoyed for free: camel and donkey rides, archery, children’s tournaments, carousel rides, children’s entertainment, and a petting zoo.
