The mountains are our world.

The best hiking tips for the whole family

Are you looking for the perfect places to find a little summer freshness in the mountains? Right this way!

Towering rock faces, rushing rivers, radiant Alpine roses, and the shrill trilling of marmots: Hikes aren’t only a unique delight for adults, but also offer fun and variety for the little ones. The Dolomites in particular offer spectacular views, a wide range of paths, and panoramic peaks for the whole family to explore. Here are three children’s hikes in South Tyrol, or more specifically in the Dolomites, that you simply have to experience this summer.

  • Circular tour in the Sexten Dolomites: easy | 2km | 340m of elevation | 2 hours 15 min.
You can comfortably reach the Mt Croda Rossa/Rotwand meadows above Sexten-Moos by cable car. Once you’ve arrived at the top, descend a short distance to the Prati di Croda Rossa/Rotwandwiesen hut and follow route no. 100 over the mountain meadows. At the next crossroads, take route no. 15. As you continue along the slope, the path becomes steeper, until you climb the Burgstall peak.
  • Via the Latemar hut up Cima Cavignon peak: moderate | 7km | 720m of elevation | 4 hours
From the mountain station of the Oberholz chairlift in Obereggen, take path no. 18 to the Forcella dei Camosci/Gamsstallscharte col. Here, there are cables for adults and kids to secure themselves to. While this isn’t strictly necessary, it’s worth being a little extra careful. Follow path no. 516 over the Cima Cavignon peak to the Latemar hut in the Val di Fiemme Alps. Follow the path back down via the Feudo pass to your starting point.
  • From Col Raiser to Pieralongia hut: easy | 4km | 200m of elevation | 3 hours
In St. Cristina in Val Gardena/Gröden, take the Col Raiser mountain lift up Mt Seceda. The hiking path leads through Puez-Odle/Puez-Geisler Nature Park to the Mastlé pasture with its hut before heading upwards to Pieralongia hut and pasture. Right behind the hut, you’ll find the 60-metre-high Pieralongia standing stone, which will leave both children and grown-ups open-mouthed with awe. Return via the same route.
