Spring breeze and summit bliss

The most beautiful family hikes in the Dolomites

Winter is fading and the first rays of sunshine are drawing us outside. As nature awakens, the desire for outdoor activities returns. The Dolomites offer the perfect backdrop for your first family hikes of the year.

Gentle meadows, rippling streams, and impressive mountain peaks provide unforgettable experiences for young and old. A wonderful and easy hike takes you into the picturesque Val Fiscalina/Fischleintal near Sexten. The wide, almost flat path is ideal for families with small children or an all-terrain buggy. Surrounded by the majestic peaks of the Dolomites, you can discover the first hints of spring here: snowdrops and crocuses sprout in the meadows and the cheerful chirping of birds accompanies you at every turn. Cosy benches invite you to take a break along the way, and at the end of the valley a rustic mountain hut beckons with South Tyrolean specialities such as Kaiserschmarrn pancakes or a hearty snack.

Experience nature up close
A highlight for children is the family hike through the Val di Casies/Gsieser Tal to Malga di Tesido/Taistner Vorderalm hut (2,012 metres). The trail leads through dense forests, past small waterfalls, and flowering Alpine meadows. Particularly exciting: along the way there are interesting information boards about the flora and fauna of the Dolomites. You might even spot a marmot! Once you reach the top, you’ll be greeted by a marvellous view that will leave the whole family speechless.

Adventure at lofty heights
The panoramic hike to Prato Piazza/Plätzwiese in Valle di Braies/Pragsertal is a must for families with teenagers who love hiking. The ascent is a little more challenging, but the reward of a wide Alpine pasture with views of the Three Peaks makes up for any effort. Here you can have a picnic, fly a kite, or simply enjoy the view. The clear mountain air and lush greenery are like balm for the soul and give you the energy you need after the long winter.

Spring in Val Pusteria/Pustertal is perfect for your first adventures in nature. So lace up your hiking boots, pack your rucksacks, and let the spring air work its magic.
