A stroll in the bishop town

Brixen charms with its unique charm. The oldest town in Tyrol impresses with its cathedral and cloister, the old “Stufels” district, the Hofburg palace with Herrengarten court garden, the picturesque arcades, and much more.

The Cathedral of Brixen

It’s the most prestigious church in South Tyrol and can be recognised from afar by its bright yellow twin towers with onion domes. Particularly impressive is the church organ with 84 ranks and no less than 3,335 organ pipes!

Neustift abbey

The monastery of the Augustinian Canons of Neustift is situated outside of Brixen and is the largest monastery in Tyrol. Since 1142, it has stood majestically in the midst of lush vineyards. It consists of a Romanesque bell tower, a Gothic cloister, and a Baroque church.

Walks for the whole family

All around Brixen you can find various walking paths for the whole family. Whether you prefer a city tour or a walk to Neustift abbey, all the path are perfect for prams and children.

Up in the mountains!

All around Brixen numerous spectacular trails await you ... not only on Mt Plose, but also Mt Sasso Putia/Peitlerkofel. It’s 2,875 metres high and is part of the Dolomites UNESCO World Heritage. The surrounding area is characterised by gentle alpine pastures and fantastic views.

Franzensfeste fortress

It was built around 1833 and 1839 by Austrian Emperor Franz I, who gave it his name. Did you know? The fortress has never been used for war purposes. Today it houses a permanent exhibition and temporary special exhibitions by local artists and is open to the public.

Water Light festival

Once a year, in Brixen old town, the Water Light festival takes place. A spectacle for young and old where local and international artists show their creations in an open-air gallery. It’s all about art, light, and water, and how these 3 elements complete each other.
