Underground adventures in the Ridnaun Mining Museum
Good luck!
Tunnels and treasures are waiting to be discovered! Get equipped with a helmet, a headtorch, and a cape – and off you go into the underground world.
Put on the protective jacket and helmet, switch on the headtorch, and start your underground adventure. In the Ridnaun Mining Museum you can discover natural treasures with your children.
For 800 years, the miners extracted precious silver, lead, and zinc from the interior of the Schneeberg mountain– under extreme conditions. At first in laborious small-scale work with hammer and iron, then with heavy equipment. Over the centuries, about 150 kilometres of tunnels were dug into the Schneeberg. 150 years ago, the latest ore processing plant was built here in the largest of all mines in South Tyrol. You can visit this historical mine as well as the impressive brakeman’s mountains and horse-carriage tracks.
Our tip: For children from the age of 4, we offer the special guided “Bergbau Junior” tour, where children go on a treasure hunt in the tunnel with hammers, picks, and shovels and dig for ore in the pond. During this tour, the little miners learn more about ore, its processing, and its use – and gain insight into the life of miners in a playful way.
Good luck!
